Fully featured virtualized 4G/3G/GSM EPC

Quortus ECX Core is a fully-featured virtualized core for cellular networks. It supports 4G LTE, 3G and GSM radio networks with VoLTE / SIP voice, packet data and SMS, either in a standalone deployment or with operator interconnect. ECX Core is designed for scalability

It runs on a broad range of hardware, from embedded ARM or MIPS processors and enterprise customer premises equipment (CPE) for mobile edge computing applications, to cloud-based servers. Because it supports multiple standards (4G LTE, 3G and GSM), it reduces costs and integration complexity, while offering configuration options that enable powerful new network features.

Virtualization enables network flexibility

ECX Core is modular and standards-compliant, enabling almost any network architecture. For example:

  • by supporting both integrated and remote PGW options, user data can be placed directly on a local LAN or routed to an operator core network
  • an integrated HSS/HLR component allows a private network to be run in isolation from an MNO core. Alternatively, ECX Core supports Diameter and MAP/M3UA interfaces allowing interconnection to existing MNO infrastructure

ECX Core includes advanced features such as S1/X2 handover, dedicated bearers, CS fallback (CSFB), SMS, inter-RAT and SRVCC. An embedded lightweight IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) allows support for 4G VoLTE (Voice over LTE) calls without the need for an external IMS network.In its 3G implementation, ECX Core includes an internal HNBGW (Home NodeB Gateway) function so that it can directly support 3G ‘small cells’ that interconnect via Iuh, without the need for an additional gateway.
