Network in a box solutions
Quortus network-in-a-box solutions provide a full core network embedded on a cellular radio or local mini-computer platform, providing a self-contained private network.
Quortus has a long history of providing 2G/3G/4G core network software to equipment integrators seeking to create ultra-compact tactical solutions for public safety, military, emergency service and other applications – so-called “bring your own coverage” solutions.
We see a continuing trend towards the use of proven, commercial communications technologies in tactical and public safety communications environments. We have worked with a variety of hardware vendors including Argela, cellXica, Cisco, Deltenna, ip.access, Lime Micro and Octasic to create such network-in-a-box solutions. Our ECX Tactical and ECX Core software is easily integrated, can be hosted on any hardware platform with low processor overhead, and is designed to be compatible with any radio access technology, including 4G LTE, 3G, GSM and WiFi – freeing customers from reliance on a particular radio vendor.
Requirements in these markets are often demanding: in addition to compactness, the solution needs to be robust, secure and sanitized. We collaborate closely with systems integrators, prime contractors and value added resellers, to create the best solution for the end customer – often providing customizations to accommodate specific requirements.
Optimized for small footprint applications, ECX Tactical allows a complete 4G-LTE EPC (enhanced packet core) to be embedded directly on a 4G radio system-on-chip (SoC). This allows the creation of a complete network, in a form factor suitable to be carried in vehicles, on un-manned aerial vehicles (UAVs, or drones) or even in a back pack.
In addition to all of the features of an advanced EPC, including integrated IMS enabling voice over LTE (VoLTE) calling, ECX Tactical includes specific enhancements for tactical communications such as multicast/broadcast capabilities, ad-hoc node meshing and traffic relaying, and in-session continuity during user mobility. The network can function standalone, meshed with other ECX Tactical nodes, or with reach-back to an MNO network.
