At next week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, cellXica (booth 7K07) will be demonstrating a novel co-channel GSM and LTE base station and core network enabled by Quortus’ EdgeCentrix (ECX) technology.
cellXica’s GiLTE (GSM-in-LTE) technology and Quortus ECX Core interoperate to provide a combined GSM and LTE cellular network. GiLTE allows a single base station to provide both GSM and LTE service concurrently, with both fully confined within the bandwidth of the LTE signal. This provides a cost effective and bandwidth efficient solution for use in bandwidth-restricted deployments such as the UK 1800MHz guard band. Because ECX Core can be configured to provide both GSM and LTE core network functions, the system is easy to deploy either as a standalone network or integrated with existing macro network infrastructure. In addition, ECX Core’s compact, efficient design means that it can run on the cellXica GiLTE base station hardware, creating a highly integrated solution in a single box.
The GiLTE base station is the latest addition to cellXica’s EXSITE range of small cells, which are based on common SDR (software defined radio) hardware. In addition to the GiLTE product, the range includes more conventional single-technology LTE, UMTS and GSM small cells, which will also be on show at MWC.
Quortus ECX Core is a fully-featured, scalable virtualized core that supports emerging mobile edge computing architectures, and includes advanced features such as integrated VoLTE / SIP voice, S1/X2 handover, dedicated bearers, CS fallback (CSFB), SMS, inter-RAT and SRVCC. It is designed to run on a broad range of hardware from cloud servers to highly integrated “base station on a chip” solutions.
